The challenge

Most habit apps weaponise streaks and guilt, so a single missed day feels like failure and people quit. Anew needed to keep people consistent by staying calm and honest — recording what actually happened without punishing imperfect days.

What we did

We designed and built a React Native (Expo) app around four clear surfaces: Today for the day's habits and check-ins, Journey for an inspectable factual history — calendar states, day details and per-habit records — Circle for encouragement from up to three chosen supporters, and Weekly Coach for gentle, evidence-led adjustments. Built on Supabase, with careful attention to accessibility, dynamic type, reduced motion and platform-native controls.

Results

  • A distinct, non-punitive state vocabulary — done, tiny, intentional skip, missed — never collapsed into a streak
  • History that stays fully inspectable and editable, separate from interpretation
  • Accessible by design — dynamic type, reduced motion and safe touch targets throughout
